RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

GSAe Ltd operates a state-of-the-art R&D laboratory staffed with industrially experienced, PhD qualified scientists based at The University of Lincoln. The facilities allow us to develop customised technology for our clients as well as support engineering activities such as process optimisation and scale up test work. Our facilities include bench-scale equipment, a pilot plant and in-house analytical capability. Collaboration with the university’s chemistry and engineering departments further enhances our offering. Our R&D capabilities, coupled with our experience in metals extraction, means we are well suited to development of technologies for metals extraction from numerous feedstocks including:

  • Power Station Fly Ash
  • Gasifier Residue
  • Flexicoke
  • Slurry Hydrocracking and Hydrogenation process residues
  • Spent Sulphuric Acid Production Catalyst
  • Spent Refinery Processes Catalyst
  • Spent Fine Chemical and Specialty Chemical Catalyst
  • Ores and ore concentrates

Our facilities

Allow us to do a variety of standard hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical test work including:

  • Leaching in numerous lixiviants such as
    • Acid
    • Alkali
    • Cyanide
    • Ammonium
  • Precipitation/crystallisation
  • Ion exchange
  • Solvent extraction
  • Sample characterisation and elemental detection
    • Microwave digestion
    • XRD (X-ray diffraction)
    • XRF (X-ray fluorescence)
    • SEM-EDX (Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray)
    • ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emmison spectroscopy)
    • Particle size distribution
    • TGA (thermogravimetric analysis)
    • Infrared spectroscopy
